DUESOUTH XTERRA 2009 MEN'S CHAMPION HEADS TO KNYSNA

DUESOUTH XTERRA's reigning 2009 Men's Champion Lieuwe Boonstra will be seen back in action again in Knysna when he tackles the first leg of the 2009/2010 DUESOUTH XTERRA at Pezula Private Estate on Thursday, 09 July 2009.

According to Boonstra, he is ready for Knysna.  "The Knysna XTERRA takes place at one of the most beautiful venues in the world.  I have filled three passports travelling to various competitions around the globe, so I would know.  The fact that this event doesn't feature a water discipline definitely adds a new dimension to the race as good swimmers now don't have a buffer over guys, who are not that strong in the water.  That brings a lot of potential winners to the race.  Personally I am a strong swimmer and would prefer the traditional 'swim, mountain-bike and run' XTERRA as it works to my advantage.  My main focus for 2009 is the XTERRA World Championships taking place in Hawaii in October.  I'm currently busy with base training.  I took part in the ProNutro AfricanX three-day stage race earlier in the year and it has done wonders for my running.  I have just recently started to incorporate gym work as part of my off-season training.  Although this initially slows you down in the short term, I'll be a machine in about two months' time!  I'm really looking forward to the Knysna XTERRA," says Boonstra.

XTERRA Knysna forms part of the Pick 'n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival.  The DUESOUTH XTERRA consists of a series of events taking place countrywide before culminating in the Western Cape in April 2010 with the DUESOUTH XTERRA South African finals.  The Knysna leg will see athletes tackle a 3km trail run, 25km mountain bike and 10km trail run.  XTERRA Lite athletes will be faced with the same challenge, but just over a shorter distance of 3km trail run, 12km mountain bike and a 5km trail run.  All three legs of the XTERRA and XTERRA Lite will take place in and around the spectacular PEZULA Private Estate.  The XTERRA Lite will start at 10h00, followed by the full XTERRA at 12h30.

The first 400 entrants will receive an event t-shirt, while all entrants stand a chance to win an ORCA lucky draw prize.  Registration will take place on the day from 07h30 on the Field of Dreams.  Late entries will also be accepted, however, a late entry fee will apply.

DUESOUTH XTERRA Warriors can look forward to two new exciting additions to XTERRA Knysna, the Bokomo Breakfast Zone and Hunters Chill Zone.  All XTERRA entrants, family and friends are invited to enjoy breakfast in the Bokomo Breakfast Zone at Pezula Field of Dreams (the Knysna leg of the DUESOUTH XTERRA), opening at 07h30.  After the event, flop down in the Hunters Chill Zone for a cool Hunters and relax until the prize-giving.
